We, Carolus Augustus, Holy Roman Emperor etc, together with Our most beloved and cherished wife and Empress Isabel, Infanta of Portugal and with Our dear son Felipe, King of Spain, are quite pleased to announce the betrothal of Our granddaughter Infanta Isabel Clara Eugenia, daughter of His Majesty of Spain, to His Grace James, heir and son to the lady Mary, Queen of Scots. It is Our dearest hope that this alliance prove fruitful for all parties, and that the marriage of the two young princes prove as happy as Our own.
